Chennai Mahila court awards death penalty to Satish who pushed a college girl in front of moving train at St. Thomas Mount

On Monday (30 December 2024), the Mahila Court in Allikulam heard the murder case of M. Sathya and pronounced the death penalty to the accused D. Sathish. The court also imposed a fine of cash and a strict prison sentence along with the death penalty.

 

On December 28, the Mahila Court, which heard the case, found Sathish guilty of murdering Sathya. Sathish, the accused, was found guilty under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code as well as Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act 1998.

 

In her order the judge stated that Sathish received the death penalty and a fine amounting to Rs. The judge, in her order, said that considering the gravity of the crime Sathish was given death penalty and a fine of Rs.

 

The order stated that the judge would pay Rs25,000 as compensation to her sister, and Rs10 lakh as compensation for the family, from the Tamil Nadu compensation fund.

The judge also ordered the documents relating to the case to be sent to Madras High Court to confirm the verdict.

D. Sathish, according to police, had killed the woman aged 20 by pushing her into a moving train in St. Thomas Mount station on October 13th 2022. Sathish stalked Sathya who was the daughter of Adambakkam head constable Ramalakshmi, while they were both living in the police quarters of Alandur. He pushed her into the path of a train after a heated debate. Sathish, the accused, was arrested on October 14 from a hiding place in Thoraipakkam.

Mambalam Government Railway Police initially filed a murder complaint and began investigating. Later, the then Director of Police C. Sylendra Babu gave orders transferring this murder case to Crime Branch CID.
